On Playland, a “badly broken” process

New Rochelle Mayor and Democratic County Executive candidate Noam Bramson issued the following statement on Republican Rob Astorino’s signing an agreement today on the future of Playland that featured significant changes to previously announced proposals:

“The Astorino administration’s needless obstructionism has set back progress at the Children’s Museum for years, and today’s decision to allow the Children’s museum – finally – to move ahead is long overdue.”

“Regarding Playland as a whole, Rob Astorino’s review process to date has been badly broken, without measurable goals or transparent analysis. Today’s announcement includes a significant change in the proposed configuration of the park, with little or no explanation. Before any conclusive agreements are reached, the County must conduct an independent, professional examination of marketing assumptions, attendance projections, business models, and financing to ensure that Playland has a successful future”

TAX FACTS from the Bramson Truth Squad

Don’t be confused by Republican Rob Astorino’s hit piece on New Rochelle’s taxes. Noam has a strong record of balanced budgets that promote economic growth, protect essential services, and lower the property tax burden.

The FACTS:

  • When you compare apples to apples, you’ll see that New Rochelle has the lowest municipal tax rate of Westchester’s big cities.
  • New Rochelle has the lowest municipal workforce in the city’s modern history — accomplished without disruptive layoffs that would hurt the economy.
  • Noam has helped attract hundreds of millions in private investment to New Rochelle, delivering nearly $8.5 million to taxpayers every year.

And Astorino’s record is not as clear as he’d like you to believe.

  • Westchester taxpayers have paid more than $800 million for tax increases since Astorino took office.
  • Rob Astorino has borrowed tens of millions of dollars to pay for operating costs — including $48 million in loans for 2013 alone — ensuring that taxpayers will bear a larger burden in future years.
  • Astorino has passed the buck and pushed fees and rate increases down the ladder, increasing the tax burden for local towns and cities.
  • At the same time he’s been laying off civil servants, Astorino’s been giving big raises to his political cronies.

If you find these facts helpful — please share them with your friends and neighbors!

Bramson Campaign Responds to Assemblymember Kieran Lalor’s Attack

In response to attacks on Mayor Noam Bramson’s positions on gun safety leveled by Assemblymember Kieran Lalor today, Bramson campaign spokesman Barry Caro issued the following response:

“Our campaign is happy to debate far right extremists like Kieran Lalor and Rob Astorino any day of the week on gun safety legislation. There’s a reason Westchester County voters, in a swing district, only gave Lalor 37% of our vote during his unsuccessful campaign for Congress in 2008 – because his views are badly out of step with our own.”

“Noam Bramson believes we need to ban assault weapons, limit high capacity magazines, and ensure we have truly universal background checks. Astorino brought gun shows back to the County Center and opposes common sense gun safety legislation. That difference is one reason why the radical right – personified today by Kieran Lalor – is rallying to Astorino’s side.”
