I just sent the following city-wide message.  Please remain inside, if possible, especially if you have a respiratory condition.

This is the City of New Rochelle with important public health information.

Para espanol, oprima numero uno.

As you have probably noticed, air quality here in New Rochelle and throughout the entire northeast has been severely impacted by wildfires in Canada. Conditions may remain poor for several days.

We urge residents to remain indoors with windows closed to the degree possible. Anyone with a respiratory condition should be especially cautious about exposure. If you do need to go outside, experts advise wearing a tight-fitting mask and changing your clothes when returning home. Please also be sure to monitor the health of loved ones who may be vulnerable, including children, the elderly, or anyone who is medically-fragile.

All of the City’s active recreational facilities are closed until conditions improve. And while passive parks are open, we recommend avoiding outdoor recreation of any kind.

Additional bulletins will follow, if warranted.

This has been Mayor Noam Bramson. Thank you for listening.
