This year, New Rochelle is undertaking a comprehensive update of GreeNR, our Sustainability Plan. Through this process, we are recommitting ourselves to meaningful climate action, while also celebrating the environmental progress already achieved. In the spirit of the latter, let me take a moment to brag on New Rochelle’s great record. The State’s Clean Energy Communities program assigns points to municipalities based on a checklist of environmental accomplishments. Statewide, there are 80 large communities, a category that includes cities and counties with more than 40,000 residents. And among them, New Rochelle ranks second in all of New York. (We’re coming for you, Erie County!) Congratulations to everyone on the City team who contributed to our impressive score. More to come in the months ahead, as the GreeNR update is finalized.
