The Democratic ticket: Martha Lopez, Ivar Hyden, Liz Fried, Noam Bramson, Yadira Ramos-Herbert, Sara Kaye

Congratulations to Liz Fried and Yadira Ramos-Herbert who won their Democratic primary elections yesterday. Liz won with an overwhelming 75% of the vote, while Yadira won a closer, but still decisive, victory with about 57% (one precinct still needs to report, so that number could change a little bit.) Because there are no Republican Council candidates in Districts 3 and 6, these primary results are conclusive.

I am delighted for Liz and Yadira, but, even more, I am happy for the people of New Rochelle, who will benefit from the service of these two exceptional local leaders. Liz has been an outstanding partner for the past four years, who has contributed enormously to New Rochelle’s progress, while Yadira will be a dynamic and effective advocate for her district, as well as a great asset to our entire city.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the primary campaigns, including those who backed other candidates. We share a common commitment to New Rochelle, and all people who give of themselves to public service are to be applauded and admired.

One last thing: if you have a lawn sign, please take it down. We’ll put up new signs in October, as the general election gets closer, but for now, let’s give everyone a little relief from the visual clutter.
