We’re still learning the details, but this announcement from New York State looks like very good news for Westchester: a $250 million assistance package to help implement sustainable alternatives to natural gas and otherwise address the challenge of Con Ed’s impending gas moratorium.
This issue is of particular importance to communities like New Rochelle that are undergoing major redevelopment, because newly-built projects must have economically-viable heating systems. We have worked closely with developers, Con Ed, and State representatives in order to identify and pursue options, and I was already hopeful that our momentum would overcome the obstacle of the moratorium. This new announcement gives me even greater confidence that New Rochelle’s economic resurgence will stay on track.
