One Goal by Amy Bass

New Rochelle has an remarkable tradition of literary excellence, with writers of truly global significance — think Thomas Paine, E.L. Doctorow, Cynthia Ozick, and others — calling our city home.

That tradition is constantly refreshed as new writers make their mark, and two recent publications show off New Rochelle’s talent at its best.

Amy Bass’s new book One Goal is an uplifting account of a Maine town’s acceptance of Somali refugees, with the high school soccer team leading the way.  In addition to learning about the book on Amy’s website, you can also read this fun interview with Jeff Pearlman, another great author (and former New Rochellean.)

Only Child by Rhiannon Navin

Only Child by Rhiannon Navin is a — unfortunately, all-too-timely — fictionalized tale of a mass school shooting, told from the perspective of a child.  Here’s Rhiannon’s website with more information.

Both authors have received have rave reviews and extensive positive coverage in the national media, both print and broadcast.  I am proud that our community is continuing to make significant creative and intellectual contributions to the larger world.
