I rarely comment on late-night comedy, but Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue last night about the Cassidy-Graham health care bill is really worth watching.
No euphemisms, no pulled punches, not even any real comedy — just a powerful denunciation of the cynicism, dishonesty, and complete indifference to human costs associated with the latest (and worst) effort to repeal Obamacare.
Cruel and purposeless, this legislation is divorced from any coherent policy objective and utterly lacking public support. Yet, impelled by the self-generated and entirely political urgency to “repeal and replace,” it is just one or two wavering votes short of passage. As a friend who works at a health care think tank wrote to me last night: “this is not a drill.”
