Senator Chuck Schumer was back in New Rochelle yesterday, making an appearance at the Hugh Doyle Senior Center to announce legislation that would protect seniors from fees and penalties associated with complex Medicare sign-up procedures.

The Beneficiary Enrollment Notification and Eligibility Simplification (“BENES”) Act would require the federal government to notify seniors of their eligibility to enroll in Medicare six months before their enrollment period – a relatively simple step that could spare seniors a lot of financial pain.
