Cultural District DOZThe City aims to create a new cultural district along lower Webster Avenue.

Proposed as an overlay zone, the cultural district would “promote the creation of housing, workspace, and programming that supports New Rochelle’s arts and cultural community.”  Artist work studios, live-work apartments, galleries, maker activities, and retail would all be encouraged through generous zoning allowances.

This particular area was selected because it already contains significant anchors of cultural activity, such as Medialoft and Transform, and because it connects directly to the downtown, where such cultural uses are already encouraged.

Contained within updates to the City’s Comprehensive Plan, the cultural district will be the topic of a public hearing and then a Council vote in September.
