On May 21st, the New Rochelle Police Department hosted a first-of-its-kind forum on smart guns. You can read all about it here.
A smart gun uses a microchip or related device to identify an authorized user and to prevent others from firing the weapon. If smart gun technology were employed more widely, many tragic accidents and crimes could be prevented.
With enormous collective purchasing power, Police departments can play an important role in encouraging manufacturers to design, produce, and distribute smart guns. That’s why our local forum in New Rochelle was focused on sharing information with law enforcement officials from throughout the region.
This event was organized by the Do Not Stand Idly By campaign, which I am proud to support.
