A healthy community embraces people at every stage of life. That’s why helping seniors to “age in place” is important to all of us.
Creating a senior-friendly city is a multi-layered challenge, involving everything from housing options and physical infrastructure, to mobility assistance and recreational opportunities. Fortunately, there are great organizations and volunteers dedicated to the mission.
One of those excellent service providers is WestFair Rides (WFR), which offers transportation to medical appointments for adults over the age of 60 who are unable to drive and to anyone over the age of 21 with impaired vision. Here in our community, WFR is operating in partnership with New Rochelle Cares, a not-for-profit that promotes aging-in-place.
To learn more about Westfair Rides, please call 914-764-3533, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.westfairrides.org.
To contact New Rochelle Cares, please write to PO Box 91, Wykagyl Station, New Rochelle, NY 10804, or call Arleen Zuckerman at 914-262-1443.
Finally, if you are interested in volunteering, WFR is presently seeking English and Spanish speaking drivers who are willing to drive once a week, once a month, or as often as their schedules permit.
