So, this seemed like a good idea when I agreed to it back in the summer. Temperatures were in the 80s, the sun was shining, November was far away. Why not say yes?
Well, November is now upon us, weekend temperatures are expected to dip into the low 40s, and I am committed to the Polar Plunge this Saturday at noon at Glen Island. I will take at least a symbolic dip in the freezing water — and maybe more, if hypothermia doesn’t get me first.
I expect my family to be on hand to take photos, laugh at my discomfort, and generally make fun of me. You can come and gawk, too, but be sure to dress warmly.
Fortunately, this is all for a great purpose; the proceeds from the Polar Plunge benefit the Special Olympics. So even if I am physically miserable on Saturday, I’ll be happy, in a sort of abstract way, to do my little part for the cause.
Catie and the kids better cook up some hot chocolate for me when we get home.
