The closest I’ll ever get to the New Rochelle Sports Hall of Fame is giving official City greetings when new members are inducted. But even lousy athletes like me can still admire good ones, and I especially enjoyed the annual Sports Hall of Fame dinner a few days ago, because it gave me a chance to catch up with friends from the New Rochelle High School Class of 1987.
One of the inductees was our classmate John McNiff, the quarterback of the High School football team. John was a terrific guy back then – kind to everyone, without a touch of arrogance. And, aside from a little grey in his hair, I’m happy to report that he’s the same terrific guy today.
