Attention sports fans!  Don’t miss the annual WFAN All-Stars Celebrity Softball Game this coming Wednesday, August 13th — warmup at 5:30pm, first pitch at 6:00pm — at Flowers Park on Fifth Avenue here in New Rochelle.

For the third year in a row, Craig Carton, the top-rated WFAN morning host, will bring his all-stars to face off against a team of New Rochelle’s best.  In addition to Craig, Boomer Esiason, Cecil Fielder, Jim Leyritz, Willie Randolph, John Franco, Mike Tannenbaum, John Halama, Joe Tacopina, and Frank Catalanatto are expected to suit up, with several more big names from the world of professional sports still to be announced.

As usual, my contribution to New Rochelle’s prospects will involve getting off the field before my terrible quality of play drags down the team.

A food and beverage court hosted by Beechmont Tavern will be open throughout the game.  And all event merchandise will raise funds for improvements at the park.  But attendance is free – just show up, take a seat in the stands, and enjoy a fun evening.  And what a great opportunity for kids to see some of their sports heroes up close.

Craig Carton grew up in New Rochelle (we actually went to kindergarten together at Roosevelt Elementary), and I’m very grateful that he’s kept up his hometown connection with this fun tradition.
