We’re working to make the Main Street area more friendly for pedestrians and cyclists (and less car-dependent.) But safe, convenient and attractive parking is still very important to the health of any business district. That’s why New Rochelle has installed user-friendly meters, landscaped lots, and taken other actions to upgrade our parking facilities.
As a next step, our Department of Development has just issued a request for proposals for a parking management team. The goal: comprehensive oversight to better maintain facilities, ensure regular upgrading of parking technology, develop permit and fee options that maximize the use of spaces, and offer supplementary services like valet parking and a parking “ambassador.” There are almost 6,000 spaces under City ownership, so it’s a big job. Proposals are due in May, and we’re aiming to make a selection in June.
