This morning, I received a tour of the new White Plains Hospital Imaging Center within the Wykagyl Shopping Center. The Imaging Center is part of a larger suite of medical offices that White Plains Hospital opened here in New Rochelle last year. It is good to have convenient, high-quality health care options in town, and the Wykagyl center will be an attractive choice for many residents of our area.
White Plains Hospital’s presence in New Rochelle is just one example of the increasing demand for medical office space. WestMed on Huguenot Street is another example.
New Rochelle’s economic development efforts should take advantage of this trend by encouraging research facilities (as recommended in our recent TOD Study) and by strengthening links between medical and commercial centers. We have an especially interesting opportunity to work with Montefiore, which recently acquired Sound Shore Medical Center, bringing a highly-regarded, well-capitalized partner on to the scene.
