New Rochelle’s annual Thanksgiving parade is always is always a ton of fun, but this year it takes on added meaning. First, we are beginning a year-long celebration of New Rochelle’s 325th birthday, with anniversary banners that will line a portion of the parade route. And second, we can take pride in our city’s resilience, as we recover from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

Organized by the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce, with assistance from our Department of Parks & Recreation and generous financial support from John & Charles Valenti, the parade will kick off at about 10:00 am on Saturday , November 17 at the corner of Eastchester Road and North Avenue, proceed on North Avenue to Main Street, and then continue along Main Street to Maple Avenue. There will be ample viewing opportunities along the whole route.

Prior to the parade, the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence will host its annual pancake breakfast at New Rochelle High School — a great way to carbo-load before walking the route.

I’ll be there with Catie and the kids, and hope to see you.
