My community spotlight series takes a look at some of the interesting businesses and establishments that give New Rochelle its unique character and about which many residents may be unaware.

For the food-and-drink-obsessed like me, nothing is more fun than trying something entirely new. And even the most dedicated beer-drinker is likely to find an enormous number of new choices at the Beer Necessities.

Located in the Quaker Ridge Shopping Center in the Wykagyl section of New Rochelle, the Beer Necessities features more than 650 different kinds of beer by the bottle, plus fifteen beers on tap. And to stave off hunger, the store also offers a selection of about fifty artisanal cheeses, plus loads hot sauces, salsas, sweets, dips, and spreads.

At the risk of sounding like an infomercial: wait … there’s more. The Beer Necessities has partnered with Great American BBQ to offer ribs, pulled pork, chicken, and brisket for take home (treats that take some of the sting out of Poultry Time’s departure). And as the spring approaches, the store will offer a great selection of smoked meats.

The Beer Necessities has a terrific pedigree; it was brought to us by Michael Grossberg, who owns the Grape Exchange at the other end of the shopping center.

Enjoy!
