Taramosalata, tzatziki, grilled octopus, souvlaki, fresh feta. If that abbreviated list of Greek favorites makes your mouth water as much as it does mine, then you’ll be happy to learn about the latest addition to New Rochelle’s restaurant scene: Ionian Grill & Cafe.

Owners Polixeni and Christos Katechis have extensive experience in the restaurant business plus a real passion for Greek cuisine, and it shows. Everything I’ve tried has been delicious, the space is bright and lively, and with a staff populated heavily by family, the greeting is always warm.

Beyond having a great meal, there’s another good reason to support this new establishment. Ionian Grill & Cafe establishes a higher standard for the block of North Avenue on which it is located — between Treno Street and Fifth Avenue, a little south of the Iona campus. The restaurant’s success would certainly improve the business climate in the area and help stimulate additional investment.

So whether you eat in or take out, be sure to give it a try. All the pleasures of Greece, minus the Euro debt crisis.
