A couple of weeks ago, Youth Baseball of New Rochelle (YBNR) invited me to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at this season’s championship game. I was honored, of course, but also nervous — let’s just say that I am not the world’s best athlete, and my pitches in prior years have landed straight in the dirt.
Happily, this year’s effort was less embarrassing. With the benefit of a few practice throws, I was able to lob my pitch straight over the plate, more or less. Yes, it was a little high and almost certainly out of the strike zone, but good enough to avoid complete shame.
All that background gives me an excuse to post this fun photo of me with the teams and coaches. Many thanks to Adam Sorota, David Reifer, and all the other parents who contribute enormous time and energy to a great program.
