New Rochelle will commemorate Memorial Day on Monday, May 30, beginning with an opening ceremony at 10:30 am at Memorial Plaza (Memorial Highway at Main Street) that will pay special tribute to Vietnam Veterans. At the ceremony’s conclusion, our Parade will kick off, proceeding down North Avenue to Pelham Road, and then ending at Hudson Park. The afternoon will be filled with music, food, and fun, featuring the West Point Jazz Knights and the landing of a Marine Corps Osprey helicopter.
Since its return three years ago, the Memorial Day parade has grown into a very special community tradition. Good weather and outstanding organization have combined to attract progressively larger crowds. And, of course, the opportunity to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our nation is a purpose that binds together all Americans and all New Rochelleans.
The United Veterans Memorial & Patriotic Association deserves special credit for its leadership and hard work. Many restaurants and community organizations have donated time or goods. And this year’s parade has received its principal financial support from Monroe College. All have earned our thanks.
I hope to see you on the 30th.
