Yesterday, Council Member Marianne Sussman announced that she would not seek reelection to the City Council this November. Marianne has been the representative for the Sixth District for three terms — almost twelve years — during which she compiled an exceptional record of achievement and assumed an invaluable leadership role on all of the major issues confronting the city as a whole.

Beyond Marianne’s many tangible accomplishments are her personal qualities — the professionalism, intelligence, dedication, and class with which she has always approached the challenges of public life. I consider it a great personal privilege to have been Marianne’s colleague and friend.

Marianne has fully earned a break from the demands of elected office, but there is no doubt that her departure from the Council will be a loss to the City government, the Sixth District, and all of New Rochelle.
