Kevin Williams, 24, was stabbed and killed on Saturday, September 18th. The Police, who say that Mr. Williams knew his assailant, have charged 20-year-old Laurell Smith with second-degree murder. This tragic event is a matter of great concern to City officials and to all residents of New Rochelle, and I express my deepest sympathies to Mr. Williams’ family. While New Rochelle’s overall crime rate is now at its lowest level in more than 40 years, even one such violent crime is one too many. We will continue our efforts to promote public safety and preserve New Rochelle’s status as one of the safest cities of its size in America.
