Measure Covers Entire Cost of Monthly Metro-North Ticket from New Rochelle
On Monday, March 16th, I joined Senator Chuck Schumer at a press conference at the New Rochelle train station where he highlighted an important provision of the federal stimulus package that greatly benefits commuters — it nearly doubles the federal tax credit for mass transit costs from $120 per month up to $230 per month.
This tax credit is offered to employers who, in turn, pass the benefit on to employees. For commuters traveling from New Rochelle to Grand Central, the new benefit level is sufficient to cover the entire cost of a monthly ticket, essentially making travel costs free.
Only one-third of eligible Westchester commuters currently participate in this transit program, and many employers are simply unaware of its existence. If you commute and do not currently receive this benefit, then I encourage you to speak with your employer.
