Three New Spots To Recommend
Although I thoroughly enjoy serving as Mayor, you may have noticed that my real dream-job is restaurant reviewer. Here are this month’s selections. A gold star for the first.
Gnarly Vine
www.thegnarlyvine.com
501 Main Street, New Rochelle, NY 10801
914-355-2541
A great new wine bar with a Manhattan-feel. The menu is composed mostly of small plates, all delicious and creative, and a few together can be shared to make a very full meal. Plenty of wine selections by the glass or the bottle. The website doesn’t do the place justice. Exactly what many have wanted in downtown New Rochelle. Be sure to go.
Steam-Eat
www.steam-eat.com
179 East Main Street, New Rochelle, NY 10801
914-355-2063
Located in the “turret” of the Huguenot Hills development, Steam-Eat features an eclectic menu of casual items, from salads, to sandwiches, to pizza and wraps (almost all with creative, gourmet touches) not to mention great coffee. There’s also a nice outdoor seating area, which should be especially pleasant come the Spring.
AJ’s Burgers
542 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801
914-235-3009
A perfect burger joint, also featuring ribs, chicken, salads, and other all-American fare. If you eat-in, your meal will be served in a skillet — a cute touch. The owners did a wonderful job of renovating a North Avenue storefront, just across from City Hall. AJ’s offers take-out and is also kid-friendly.
