Aims to Preserve Neighborhood Character

The City Council this month approved extensive changes in the New Rochelle zoning map for the mid to lower Webster Avenue corridor, from roughly Thomas to Colonial, and for the Rockland-Highwood-Beechwood area. These neighborhoods have now been “downzoned” from a multifamily classification to the less dense two-family classification, which is more consistent with the current housing stock. This recent action was recommended by a citizens committee and by our planning staff, and is part of the City’s ongoing effort to limit growth and development outside our primary commercial areas.
