Second Phase Of Project Will Enhance Fifth Avenue to Sickles Avenue

The first phase of our North Avenue corridor improvements are now complete (except for street trees that will be planted in October.) The finished product features attractive sidewalks, brick pavers, street lamps, underground utility wires, and a more efficient lane layout to promote traffic flow — a dramatic change from the tired appearance that previously characterized the area. I am very pleased with how it turned and hope you are, too.

Last week, I was delighted to announce that the City now has funding and plans in place to commence next year the second phase of the North Avenue improvement project. The Phase II enhancements will stretch from Fifth Avenue to the Thruway Overpass and will include elements similar to those in the College District, together with landscaped nodes at Hamilton Avenue and the Boulevard. It is funded entirely through the use of federal community development grants.

HERE is a slide show illustrating the plans. It was presented to City Council this week. The photo-simulation is an east-bound view of the Boulevard, extending from North Avenue.
