Summer Events Celebrate Huguenot Heritage
As you may know, New Rochelle was founded in the 17th Century by French Huguenots who were fleeing religious persecution. The community of La Rochelle in France was a center of Huguenot life, and the settlers named their new community in La Rochelle’s honor. In the years since, our sister-city relationship with La Rochelle has been the basis for a variety or personal and cultural exchanges. This summer, led by a committee of local volunteers, the City will renew its sister-city ties through a variety of events. A complete list of activities, many of which will be fun for families, is HERE.
