Initial Bicycle System Includes Roughly Thirty Miles
The City Council has voted to designate approximately thirty miles of local roads as bicycle routes. This effort is intended to provide residents with transportation alternatives to the automobile, encourage healthy lifestyles, and offer new recreational opportunities. The designated roads will receive appropriate signage and, where possible, edge lines that also have a useful traffic calming effect. The City will seek state and federal funding for a more robust and expanded long-term bicycle system that may include structural improvements in some areas. In deference to the opposition of residents of the Pelham Road area, Pelham Road has been removed from our list of short-term routes.
