Draft Environmental Impact Statement Available On-Line

With Trump Plaza and Avalon’s second tower already under construction downtown, the City is beginning to plan for the next phase of downtown development. This week, we took action with regard to the block bounded by North Avenue, Huguenot Street, Lecount Place, and Anderson Street. The “Lecount Square” project is proposed to include some 365,000 square feet of residential space, split between high-rise and loft buildings, a hotel-office tower of 305 feet, and more than 200,000 square feet of new retail. In addition, it is proposed that Anderson Street be shifted some 50 feet to the north and lined with smaller shops and restaurants. A very preliminary image of the project can be view HERE. (It is highly likely that the architecture and design treatment of the project will undergo many revisions prior to construction, so comments on the appearance of the buildings are premature.) Of course, a development of this size and significance requires extensive environmental analysis. At its last meeting, the City Council accepted as complete and set a public hearing on a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Lecount Square. The DEIS can be downloaded by visiting the City’s homepage at www.newrochelleny.com and clicking on Lecount Square in the right-side box marked “What’s New.” The public hearing on the document is scheduled for June 20th at 8:00pm.
