First Step: Burial of Overhead Utility Wires
For those wondering about the messy construction on North Avenue, here’s some good news: the work now underway is part of the long-awaited North Avenue corridor improvements. Crews are busy burying overhead utility wires and will soon be installing new sidewalks, trees, pedestrian-scaled lamps, trash receptacles, and other amenities. In addition, traffic flow should be improved with dedicated left-turn lanes, clearer pedestrian crossings, and other enhancements. These changes will occur in the “College District” between Eastchester Road and Fifth Avenue. An upgrade of the remainder of North Avenue is now being designed and will be implemented as funding becomes available. I regret any inconvenience associated with the construction phase of this effort, but hope most residents will agree that the goal of an improved Avenue is well worth the temporary annoyance.
