BID Program Will Restore Historic Structures
Scaffolding is in place at three of Main Street’s most prominent buildings, where “modern” treatments are being stripped away to reveal impressive historic facades. Before long, several other properties on the same block will receive similar attention, with windows being uncovered, cornices rebuilt, and other architectural details restored to their former glory. Through the Business Improvement District’s (“BID”) downtown façade improvement program, many other buildings in the downtown will receive new signage and awnings. The most dramatic transformation may be the Curtain Shop (541 Main Street, between Centre and Division) which has shrugged off a blank stucco facing and now features an impressively detailed series of arched windows. It’s worth checking out.
