Collection System Will Intercept Floatable Debris
As part of a comprehensive plan to improve water quality throughout our region, the City Council acted last week to install two new floatable debris collection systems. The systems will be sited at the end of storm drains on either side of the Wright Island Marina at the southern end of Drake Avenue and will catch large debris, such as paper or plastic bags, cigarette filters, bottles, cans or leaves. The total cost of the installation is $73,000 with $36,500 being funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the remainder being paid by the City from its matching grant account and contingency fund. The cost of maintenance after installation will be borne by the Wright Island Marina.
