Reduction Will Range From Roughly $50 to $275
The City Council voted unanimously this week to cut property taxes for veterans by almost doubling the allowable local property tax exemption. Non-combat veterans will now be entitled to a $27,000 exemption, combat veterans will receive a $45,000 exemption, and disabled veterans will receive a $90,000 exemption, with resultant average savings ranging from $50 to $275 per year. The Council’s action acknowledges the community’s great debt to those who have served our nation in uniform. The legislation to provide these benefits was sponsored by Council Member Roberto Lopez.
