Habitat for Humanity, in conjunction with several local businesses, restaurants, and institutions, has organized a Mardi Gras celebration for New Rochelle, with proceeds for all events to benefit the rebuilding effort in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. The festivities kick-off on February 28th (Fat Tuesday) and continue through Sunday, March 5th. Planned activities include: an art exhibit and reception, with silent auction at the Backstreet Gallery for pieces by Faith Ringgold, Alvin Clayton, Charles Fazzino, Robin Miller, Gilbert Fletcher, and others; film presentations at the Library’s Ossie Davis Theater; multiple jazz and zydeco performances, New Orleans-themed culinary receptions, and poetry readings at local restaurants; and special events for children, including a mask-making workshop. All events are free with a donation to Habitat.
