As reported in a previous email bulletin, the City has launched a master planning process for Ward Acres, New Rochelle’s largest park. The general focus of our efforts will be preservation and enhancement of Ward Acres as an inviting place for the enjoyment and appreciation of nature. The City envisions trail improvements, habitat restoration, control of invasive species, educational and environmental programming, rehabilitation and adaptive re-use of the old barn, appropriate treatment for historical sites, better signage, and so forth. To accomplish these goals, the City has retained highly regarded park consultants (Vollmer Associates), and also convened a working committee composed of various stakeholders and neighborhood representatives. Public input is absolutely essential to the success of our planning effort, so if you are interested in this subject and want to comment, offer ideas, or simply learn more, please join us for the first of several public meetings on Ward Acres’ future.
