The City’s efforts to clean-up Davids Island and prepare the site for eventual public access have received another shot in the arm. I have previously reported on the federal financial support obtained by Congresswoman Nita Lowey through the Army Corps of Engineers. This month, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced a grant in the amount of $882,000 to perform a detailed environmental analysis of conditions on the Island. The State’s funding will be matched by relatively small local and County contributions of $59,000.
