For commuters, the long wait is finally over. Earlier this summer, the New Rochelle Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) opened its doors. Currently, only permit-holders may use the facility, but final touches on construction and landscaping should be completed this September, when the Center will be open for daily parkers and for bus riders. The ITC was funded principally through federal grants obtained by Congresswoman Nita Lowey.
Annual parking permits are still available, but are going quickly. If you would like to obtain one, please contact George Rainone at 654-2189.
Meanwhile, in an effort to beautify the ITC, the New Rochelle Council on the Arts recently toured the facility to identify areas in which public art would be appropriate. I am particularly interested in the large exterior wall facing North Avenue, which could serve as a visible, attractive focal point at the entrance to the central business district.
