State law permits municipalities to offer property tax exemptions to lower-income senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Yesterday, the City Council voted to raise the eligibility level for such exemptions to an annual income of $32,400. The level of exemption varies from 5% up to 50%, depending upon the applicants precise income level. The Council also voted to increase the local property tax exemption for veterans.
